Renewing Dwell

Description

The main Hall is a 100+ year old solid brick building and requires significant work to maintain and extend it’s useful life span.

We plan to:

  • Improve thermal performance with draft proofing, insulation & shading
  • Transition all appliances & services to efficient electric options
  • Generate & store clean renewable energy with rooftop solar & backup battery

Key Stages (main Hall)

  • Solar PV system with battery backup storage
  • Shade sail for west windows & walls (complete)
  • ‘Coolscaping’ concept design & implementation (in progress)
  • Shading of cooling equipment & windows
  • Install R6.0 ceiling insulation (complete)
  • Replace windows with thermally efficient double glazing
  • Abolish gas heating & add reverse cycle air-conditioning
  • Install EV charging points

Future Stages (rear rooms)

  • Replace existing gas HWS with electric heat pump HWS or 3 phase instant unit
  • Replace existing gas cooktop with electric induction
  • Shade west walls
  • Seal gap & cracks
  • Insulate ceiling / roof
  • Replace windows & doors

Temperature Monitoring

  • We’ve installed indoor & outdoor temperature monitoring to keep track of performance. Real time data can be found on the Purple Air Map
