MVS recommendations to the MV2040 VISION & STRATEGY CONSULTATION

We have called for clear targets & a positive vision for our great city in the highest level Council plans – MV2040 Vision and the Council Plan, including targets for:
🚲 Clean Transport
🌞 Carbon Emissions
🥵 Urban Heat
🌳 Tree Canopy
♻️ Diverting Waste

We also recommended the Community Vision include: “Our city is climate-safe and pollution-free, we use renewable energy and clean transport, waste nothing and enjoy shaded streets and a healthy environment”

We did a deep dive and have come up with 6 recommendations on how land use and development can be part of the solution for climate-safe and pollution-free Moonee Valley for all.

MVS 2025/2026 BUDGET SUBMISSION

MVS is calling on Moonee Valley City Council to add $1,000,000 to the Community Carbon Emissions Reduction Reserve to help get residents onto renewables & cut energy costs at home!
Council can help residents with cost of living relief and show strong leadership through meaningful climate action by scaling up the already successful Let’s Go Zero program of carbon reduction initiatives such as:
  • Home Energy Upgrades Program
  • Solar advisory service for apartments
  • Energy bill advice
  • Let’s Go Zero program communications
  • Energy efficiency education (via Moonee Valley Libraries)
We’ve complied OUR SUBMISSION based on 5 years of ongoing advocacy to help reduce community carbon emissions, and we think this ask has a real chance … but we need your help to make it happen.

Heat makes learning hard, so let’s COOL OUR SCHOOLS

Every child deserves the best start and we know that learning gets harder when it’s hot. Yet often schools have low tree coverage, dark roofs and vast areas of heat absorbing asphalt and synthetic turf.

We are calling on the State Government and private schools to boost tree cover and switch dark surfaces to lighter, cooler and more natural alternatives.

We want an end date on glyphosate

There is much debate about Glyphosate, so we are calling on Council to exercise caution and phase out its use, especially around kinders, playgrounds, dog parks, waterways and other sensitive environments.

This is an ongoing campaign so while we wait for results, we are also actively working on running hand weeding events in conjunction with Council to reduce the use of herbicides.
